Lochleven Vineyard ![]() Little's Wines is located 170 km north of Sydney in the Pokolbin region of the Hunter Valley. Little's controls a total area of 15 hectares in Pokolbin with the principal grape varieties grown being Semillon, Chardonnay, Marsanne, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. Our Reserve range is sourced entirety from our own vineyard and the Kindred's Daisy Hill vineyard which are situated between Palmers Lane and Deasys Road. Both vineyards are planted on north to north-west facing slopes which provide an ideal combination of sunlight exposure and air circulation. The soils of the Lochleven and Daisy Hill vineyards are made up of rich red to dark brown clay/loam. The structure is broken up by weathered ironstone which help keep these heavier Pokolbin soils more friable and improves their drainage. Although this soil type is often very fertile, it doesn't support excessive vigour even in strong varieties such as Semillon and Shiraz. Hence our yields are typically between 3 to 6 tonnes per hectare, allowing the vines to produce intense fruit flavours essential to wine quality. |
